Father John Misty Jabs at Right-Wing Ignorance With Scathing "Pure Comedy"

Ever since Joshua Tillman's ayahuasca-induced transformation into the artist currently known as Father John Misty, we've been able to count on him for cutting cultural commentary by way of psychedelically-tinged compositions. Today he takes aim at right-wing politics and the inherent ignorance therein with the scathing and hardly funny "Pure Comedy."

With lines like "Where did they find these goons they elected to rule them" and "ladies, I hope you don't live to regret this," Misty pulls at all of the loose threads over beds of spacious piano chords. The song arrives with an equally subversive visual attached. Directed by Matthew Daniel Siskin and "everyone in America," the video features sinister illustrations with hat tips to president-not-elect, Kanye West and, of course, everyone's favorite frog, Pepe the meme.

Watch and listen as Father John Misty jabs at the new presidential regime in the video for "Pure Comedy" down below. He's set to perform at Coachella this April ahead of a few summer shows, the dates for which are listed below the player. Revisit his critically-acclaimed 2015 release, I Love You, Honeybear on iTunes today.
