Brooklyn-Based Band Escort Hooks Up With Legendary Artist Brian Jackson For New Single "Ride" [Premiere]

Escort's first new album since 2015 is coming soon.

It's been four years since Brooklyn-based disco band Escort has released an album. That changes later this month, when the group, which now consists of singer Nicki B and producers Eugene Cho and JKriv, will release City Life, the follow-up to the band's 2015 album, Animal Nature. The first single from the album is the feel-good title track, featuring veteran singer Fonda Rae.

We are proud to premiere the follow-up single, "Ride," which features an assist from another legend, Gil Scott Heron-collaborator Brian Jackson, who layed down the flute on the track.

We reached out to the band so they can provide some perspective on the song. In an email, they told us:

Ride” is an homage to a very special set of productions with a certain fusion of disco, soul, jazz, and spiritualism that have a permanent place in the crates of DJs around the globe.

Speaking on collaborating with Jackson, the band told us:

We were truly honored to have the great Brian Jackson lay down yet another brilliant flute performance, echoing one of the most danced-to flute solos of all time — his classic, “The Bottle”— a highlight of his work with lifelong musical collaborator Gil Scott Heron.

“Ride” especially draws from the iconic productions of the Mizell brothers, inspired by their arrangements and productions that married the full breadth of classic and new sounds of the era in an effort to create something both new and familiar, to both move your feet and feed your mind.

Stream "Ride" below. And look out for City Life, which is dropping on April 12.
