At the top of year, André 3000 was named the creative director of the Swedish footwear brand Tretorn. The footwear company had a special relationship with the rapper; growing up Atlanta, the rapper and his friends wore old-school Tretorn sneakers.
Now the rapper and the brand have revealed their first collection. Called the I André Benjamin will not draw in class collection, the line will feature ten designs that come from the imagination of André 3000 himself.
GQ, the magazine that published the excellent interview with the rapper a couple of weeks ago, premiered photos of the line. They spoke with Jeff Stapleton, who worked on the line as a consultant. The designer said that André brought 15 sketchbooks from up to 20 years ago. André spoke to Refinery29 about the line and said that he created the shoes “just freestyling in a sketchbook and seeing what came from the pen to the paper.”
