Zendaya Will Be The First Black Mary Jane Ever In New 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

According to The WrapZendaya will be playingMary Jane Watson in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Homecoming. It was initially reported that Zendaya, an actress, singer and dancer, was to play a character named Michelle in the movie. Zendaya, whose father is of African-American descent and mother is white, if the reports are true, will become the first person of African ancestry to play the role of Mary Jane Watson in Marvel's Spider Man universe. Zendaya, who is nineteen years-old, and from Oakland, California, got her start as a model and acting on Disney Channel in such shows as iCarly and theDisney Channel Orange MovieFrenemies. British actor Tom Holland will play the role of Spider Man. Holland made his debut as Peter Paker aka Spider Man in the film Captain America: Civil WarSpider-Man: Homecoming's cast includes: Logan Marshall-GreenRobert Downey Jr.Hannibal BuressMarisa Tomei, Michael KeatonKenneth Choi, and others. The film will be directed by Jon Watts and produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. Also, no official word on Donald Glover's role in the film.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters in just about a year on July 7, 2017.
