Wyatt Cenac To Star In New TBS Comedy 'The Group'

The Daily Show alumnus and eternal Okayplayer favorite Wyatt Cenac will headline a new comedy series on TBS this fall. According to information obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Cenac will star alongside Alice Wetterlund, Luka Jones and Tracee Chimo in the series, in which he plays Jones, "a curious, accomplished and serious-minded staff journalist in the town of Beacon who finds himself pulled into the fringe world of alien abductees, or 'experiencers,' as they like to be called."

At present The Group is only a working title for the series, which is being produced by Conan O'Brien's Conaco group. In an early scoop on the series's plot, THR revealed the following character descriptions:

Luka Jones as Gerry Johnson, an amiable social dropout, tollbooth worker and enthusiastic expert on all things alien.

Tracee Chimoas Chelsea Healey, a strange, high-strung soul in the body of a model housewife who is hiding something much darker and weirder.

Oscar Nunez as Father Doug, a "hip" priest who manages the community room rentals at Our Lady of Sorrows in Beacon.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Yvonne Watson, one of the more successful door-to-door cosmetic salespeople on the Eastern seaboard.

Marylouise Burke as Margaret Flood, a retiree who is taking full advantage of her newfound sexual freedom after moving into a retirement community in Beacon.

Ana Gasteyer as Gina Morrison, a competent, dedicated and thorough therapist who has taken a few wrong turns in life, lost her accreditation and is now running a support group for alien abductees while also working part-time at a home furnishing chain store.
