Texas Police Release Sketch Of Gunman Who Fatally Shot 7-Year-Old Jazmine Barnes

Texas police are searching for the man responsible for Jazmine Barnes' death.

On Sunday, a man opened fire on a car in an area near Houston and fatally killed a seven-year-old girl in the process. Since then, police have been searching for the man and have also released a sketch of the suspect.

"This is the man witnesses say murdered 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes on 12/30 as her family drove on the E. Sam Houston Pkwy frontage road at Wallisville Road," the Harris County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook and Twitter Thursday. "Thin white man, 30's-40's, in a red pickup."

Along with the composite sketch, police released enhanced surveillance video footage of the truck the gunman was driving.

The suspect fired several shots at the vehicle Jazmine and her family were in. LaPorsha Washington, Jazmine's mother, was shot once in the arm and Jazmine's 6-year-old sister sustained injuries caused by shards of broken glass. Jazmine's two teenage sisters, who were also in the car, were uninjured.

Washington recounted the incident to CNN, saying that the shooter first pulled up to the passenger side of their car and then moved over to the driver's side and proceeded to open fire.

"I think I'm hit in my arm," Washingtn recalled telling her children.

Alexis Dilbert, one of Jazmine's teenage sisters, described the suspect as a white man with blue eyes and having a thin build and no beard. She also said he was wearing a black hoodie and appeared pale and "sick."

"The look in his eyes — he wasn’t normal," Dilbert said in another report from CBS. Although Jazmine's family believes the attack was racially motivated, police have yet to identify the motive for the shooting.

"It was not fair," Washington said to ABC13. "He intentionally killed my child for no reason. He didn't even know her, he didn't know who she was."

DeAndre Hopkins, the wide receiver for the Houston Texas, pledged he would donate his playoff paycheck of $29,000 to Jazmine's family, while Shaquille O'Neal and a Houston police officer offered to pay for her funeral.
