Su Na + Mensah Deliver A Crystalline Flip Of Jay Rock's "Money Trees Deuce"

Minneapolis-based producer Su Na (aka Alex Ness) has a knack for concocting the ideal blend of open space and blistering, heavy cacophony. Both elements are in high gear on his and Mensah's new collaborative remix of Jay Rock's "Money Trees Deuce," which hit the net Thursday only 48 hours after the original blazed a trail across the blogosphere.

Built on muted trumpets, trap hats, cries and crisp piano, Su Na and Mensah's creation is a wonderful counterpoint to the OG version (which was produced by storied hitmaker Flippa). Su Na, for those not yet in-the-know, specializes in future-hip-hop sonics that sit well with fans of the Soulection crew, while Mensah recently came up through his own Ableton lessons and only just began collaborating with Na as a producer tandem. Before that, the Dallas-born producer lived briefly in Ghana during his high school years. More vibrant cuts are reportedly in the works from these North Star State-based beatmakers, and with this Jay Rock flip--one that's just the right blend of homage and departure--we're encouraged to hear what they cook up next. Listen to Su Na's earlier joint "Midnight," and then treat yourself to their new rework of Jay Rock's goodness below. Money Trees Deuce-point-five, perhaps?
