Sly5thAve prepares to release his debut solo LP Akuma on February 11th via Truth Revolution Records. The 12-track album named for the people of Nigeria's Imo state, was inspired by Sly5thAve's journey to Africa to connect with his Igbo origins. The second single "Deme" features Denitia's ascendant vocal rising and falling just above the mystical theme of the track, which is punctuated by the immaculate fret work of Hajime Yoshida. "Deme" channels the ancient and the utterly spiritual with relentless percussion, elevating the call-and-response of common prayer and communities dense with brown people to a place of prominence.
