Nicolay City Lights Vol 3 Soweto The Secret

Nicolay Sends Up A Gleaming Dance Floor Flare On "The Secret"

If your espresso machine was on the fritz this morning, fear not--Nicolay has got that thing you need. The producer and multi-instrumentalist has only hours ago shared "The Secret," a driving, soulful electronic cut that's brimming with positive energy and more than a few surprises. The bobbing synthesizers that comprise much of the new track charge in and out of the foreground as the beat rolls by, before finally stepping off stage completely so that Nicolay's clever soul turnaround can do their thing, upping the compositional "ooh" factory by at least a dozen points.

"The Secret" can be found on Nicolay's new album City Lights Vol. 3: Soweto, a record that's being framed as a musical love letter to South Africa and its rich music culture. As one half of The Foreign Exchange, Nicolay has been making stellar dance music for many years (and it's even garnered him some Grammy recognition), and the latest City Lights appears to be on par with his previous accomplishments. In fact, Soweto was the city in which The Foreign Exchange played their debut South African performance last year--it's only right that the new 10 track album (which features assists from Phonte amongst many others) should be dedicated as such. You can purchase City Lights Vol 3: Soweto on iTunes today, and as you're doing so listen to "The Secret" below.
