"Not Many People Have Asked If I'm Okay": Meghan Markle Discusses Struggles Of Being A Royal And New Mom
Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, welcomed their five-month-old son, Archie, back in May.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry, has opened up about facing media scrutiny while being pregnant.
Speaking with Tom Bradby in a clip that comes from ABC's forthcoming documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Markle discussed the challenges she faced being pregnant with her and Harry's son, the now five-month-old Archie.
"Any woman, especially when they are pregnant, you are really vulnerable, so that was made really challenging," Markle said. "And then when you have a newborn, and especially as a woman, it is a lot."
"So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed, I guess thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I am OK," she continued. "But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind-the-scenes."
"Would it be fair to say that [it's] not really OK and it's really been a struggle?" Bradby then asked, to which Markley quickly responded, "Yes."
A number of people on social media have since reacted to the video and voiced their support of Markle, with the hashtag #WeLoveYouMeghan even sprouting up on Twitter.
Markle, who is biracial, has also faced racist attacks during her time in the royal spotlight for some time now. Last year, Harry released a statement in her defense calling out the "racial undertones of comment pieces" and the "outright sexism and racism of social media trolls."
