Marvel Comics Just Won't Stop, Remixes Missy Elliott, Curren$y, Drake & Future LP Covers

Marvel Comics has been nothing if not prolific as they continue to release dazzling new images that combine hip-hop and superheroes in an incredibly creative way (they've also managed to sneak a few villains into the mix). Now, four more artists have gotten the treatment, with the album art of Missy Elliott, Curren$y,Drake and Future each getting recast as a member of the Marvel universe. Specifically, Supa Dupa Fly has been transformed into a Black Widow scene, Drake's Nothing was the Same portrait has morphed into the Silver Surfer, Future's DS2 becomes a haven for All New Inhumans and Curren$y's Verde Terrace shifts into an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. snapshot.

The four new covers debuted on MTV Friday as part of an immersive interview with Marvel's Editor In Chief Axel Alonso. Asked about how his team decides which albums to remix (the series began with an obvious old school "golden era" batch of albums but has since branched out to works from more recent and radio-friendly MCs), Alonso commented that yes, there were some no-brainer projects, but the entire collection as a whole was always meant to be inclusive. "We could have done all of the Tribe Called Quest covers, you follow me?," he told MTV. "[But] we wanted to make sure that we spanned 30 years of hip-hop, and we wanted to span all of the various genres within it. We wanted old school, new school, west coast, east coast… We wanted gangsta, we wanted trap lord."

"We really wanted to show hip-hop in all its glory. As we moved along, we just checked an artist and an album off the list, and that was that."

As this series churns ahead toward its (alleged) finish date of Spring 2016, we're very pleased to see that a spirit of openness and play underpins it all. Check out the new covers above and read Alonso's full interview with MTV here.
