Maimouna Youssef Drops The Official Video For Her Lorde Cover "We're Already Royal" Directed By Brian "B. Kyle" Atkins.

Maimouna Youssef delivers the official video for "We're Already Royal" - her cover of New Zealand phenom Lorde's 2013 smash "Royals" - directed by Brian B. Kyle Atkins. The footage features the almighty Mumu Fresh in impressive royal dress, running through her rather clever ode to empowerment - a track that serves up kujichagulia by the fistfuls and plays like a close cousin to Esperanza Spalding's "Black Gold." The video is the latest from the D.C. songstress and MC ahead of her forthcoming mixtape entitled The Reintroduction of Mumu Fresh. She drops the clip with a note about the concept behind her rework:

This video project shows how the modern day African American community still holds the same indicative set of core values, morals, and ethics instilled throughout history and evident in ancestral memory. Let it be known that at the core, we are Kings and Queens, despite the assumptions or misconceptions others may have of us as a people.
