Mac Miller Chops Up Elvin Jones, Buddy Rich And Charles Lloyd On 'Rhythm Roulette'

Mac Miller takes the opportunity to prove he's more than a man behind the mic, putting the chop to cuts from some of jazz's most cherished players in the latest installment of Mass Appeal's Rhythm Roulette. Is isn't often we get to see ole Larry Fisherman at work in the lab, but after a blind-folded crate digging session at LA's Record Surplus yielded three fine selections from the master Elvin Jones, Buddy Rich and supreme sax player Charles Lloyd, we got a rare glimpse of Miller on some evil genius type ish.

Miller crafted himself quite the atmospheric concoction, borrowing drums from Lloyd's live LP, horns from Jones and a tuff drum fill from Rich, then laying down his own low end and key touches. The result is a brooder, haunted by buried horns and a menacing swing. Who would have thought that someone who picks beats as well as he does (peep the Puffy Q and Pete Rock collabo "Melt" for validation) would put them together with equal tact. A true redeemer for those who doubted and yet another reason to geek if you already knew. Watch as Mac Miller plays maestro with the greats on Rhythm Roulette below.
