Though Ty Dolla $ign wasn't in the building to work the hook, his stand-in PJ handled hook duties with ease as the two led an ensemble through the powerful number's progression, which resonates all too well in the current cultural climate. The performance comes as a welcome reentry to the public sphere, which Lupe has tactfully evaded over the past few years. And it's certainly nice to see that he doesn't need the veil of the Twittersphere to make poignant and earnest statements that are as sharp as anything he's ever written.
