Larry June & The Alchemist Announce Joint Album 'The Great Escape'

The debut collaborative album between Larry June and The Alchemist, titled The Great Escape, arrives on March 31.

Larry June and The Alchemist have linked up for their debut collaborative album. On Friday (March 3), the pair announced that their forthcoming LP, titled The Great Escape, would arrive on March 31. The album is helmed by lead single, "89 Earthquake," accompanied by a music video directed by Sean Kelly.

Last August, June released LP Spaceships on the Blade, with features from Babyface Ray ("Extra of Um"), 2 Chainz ("Still Boomin"), Curren$y ("5.0 Chronicles"), Syd ("For Tonight"), Duckwrth ("Brand New Machinery"), and Wallo267 ("Tools of the Game (Interlude)") across 19 tracks.

The Alchemist had an equally productive 2022, dropping solo project The Alchemist Sandwich, in addition to Continuance with Curren$y, The Elephant Man's Bones with Roc Marciano and One More with MIKE and Wiki.

In a 2021 Complex interview, The Alchemist talked about how he decides to collaborate with an artist.

"I approach each one differently—the same way as a painter would step to the canvas and try to do something different. Everybody is different," he said. "Human beings all have their different nuances and quirks. My process is to become friends first, or just to get to know a person and like them. If you’re a good artist, you’re really in tune with yourself, and you’re making music that is representative of you as a person. When I think back on a lot of the good music I made with people, when we first met, there was a moment where I was like, “I like this guy.” Either they said something or cracked a joke. We’re pretty funny. If you’re too stiff, that may not work."
