Production on Netflix's live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebopis headed for a bit of a hiatus.

According to a report from Deadline, John Cho, who is portraying the show's lead, Spike Spiegel, suffered a "freak accident" on set while filming in New Zealand. Sparing specifics, their sources report a knee injury took place on the last take of a scene and will require surgery, as well as "extensive rehabilitation." Production is expected to be delayed by 7-9 months.

For their part, Netflix is committed to Cho in the lead role. A statement from a rep reads: "Our thoughts are with John and he has our complete support as he recuperates from this injury." The series was expected to air at some point in 2020, but we'll probably have to hold out until (at least) the end of the next year at this point, depending on Cho's post-recovery prognosis.
