Hear An Early Stream Of Illa J's Brilliantly Dope Self-Titled LP

Here we are, folks. The moment Illa J fans have been waiting for is upon us. After gracing us with a trio of cosmic visuals for the singles "Universe,""Never Left" and "All Good Pt. 2," the younger Yancey has shared an early stream of his self-titled album ahead of tomorrow's official release. And truth be told, it's a doozy. The album comes entirely produced by Canadian beat-freakers Potatohead Peoplewho have crafted a sonic suite that's perfectly tailored for the half rap/half croon styles. "Cannonball" is a page straight out of the Dilla book, where snares crack and warm rhodes ride high over some karate chop-swing. "Strippers" bears the mark of another north-of-the-border king of the cloud (Kaytranada) and slaps like the little cousin to Slum Village's "Give This N****" in the best of ways. It's a sharp and fluid outing that has something for the kush-kissing hip-hop head and the more astute, all in one brilliantly dope package. And it's here for you to enjoy in its entirety down below. Stream Illa J's new self-titled project and join him next Wednesday, October 7th at Brooklyn's Cameo Gallery for the album's release party. Preorder Illa J ahead of tomorrow's release on Bandcamp today.
