CNN's Van Jones To Host 'The Messy Truth' Special

Political activist and commentator Van Jones is bringing his web series The Messy Truth to CNN before the year is over.

Jones, who has increasingly become a prominent figure in American politics (especially this year), is using the special to give "a live audience an opportunity to be outspoken" about the recent election, and will also focus on "the intersectional social justice issues that are likely to arise in a Trump presidency."

The show is intended to be an offshoot of Jones' The Messy Truth, a web series which finds the political pundit traveling across the country to speak to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump supporters alike about their respective choices.

One notable episode was when Jones ventured to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where he spoke to a group of Trump supporters with an empathy and open-mindedness not often seen on political television.

"What these conversations reinforced in my mind is the basic decency and dignity of the Trump voters. They are not blind to his flaws. They simply rank and balance his shortcomings differently than do his detractors," Jones said in regards to the series. "More empathy and understanding can keep us from needlessly inflaming one another, and this should create the conditions for a better understanding of our differences."

Following Trump's presidential win Jones offered a commentary on election that went viral., speaking to the concerns and fears of a number of people across the country.

"You tell your kids, 'Don't be a bigot,'" Jones said during a segment on CNN. "You tell your kids, 'Do your homework and be prepared.' And then you have this outcome, and you have people putting children to bed tonight. And they're afraid of breakfast. They're afraid of, how do I explain this to my children?"

Surely, if any political commentator is offering a necessary voice and platform it is Jones. Check out the special when it airs on December 6.
