Atlanta Braves’ Outkast Night Was A Home Run

The legacy of Outkast was present throughout Truist Park on Thursday night, where the stadium held an Outkast dedication event.

Atlanta’s Truist Park experienced an Outkast takeover on Thursday night (May 25). During the Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies game, limited edition bobbleheads with the likeness of André 3000 and Big Boi were given to the first 15,000 fans upon stadium entry, which has since exceeded $300 on resale websites like eBay.

A reported 43,216 were in attendance at the game, where Outkast member Big Boi threw the first pitch of the night. Classic songs by the legendary Atlanta group played throughout the stadium, while an ATLiens Diner served guests. Selections on the menu were named after Outkast lyrics like Wet Lemon Pepper Wings (“Ain’t No Thang”), Patty Melts (“So Fresh, So Clean”), and Fried Fish and Grits (“ATLiens”). Also playing Outkast tribute music was the Biological Misfits with actor-musician Malcolm Jamal-Warner at the stadium’s Georgia Power Pavilion Stage.

Although André 3000 was not in attendance, there’s been random sightings of the Showing Up actor in Japan with his now-signature flute. Outkast’s last performance was in October 2014 at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans, when the duo briefly resumed their near decade-long hiatus. Outkast last released the soundtrack to the musical film Idlewild in 2006.

Over in the states, Big Boi will continue his summer tour, where he’ll perform at the Brooklyn Bowl on May 30th. With the show presented by Okayplayer, Big Boi’s supporting act is rapper-singer Kari Faux, who has released new album Real B*tches Don’t Die!
