'Afro Samurai' Creator Tapped for Full-Length 'Batman' Anime Feature

Batman Ninja will be The Dark Knight's sophomore stint through the anime lens

Ahead of New York's upcoming Comic-Con installation, Warner Bros. Japan and Warner Bros. Entertainment have announced the return of the anime Batman.

According to Polygon, a new feature-length anime film from Afro Samurai creator, Takashi Okazaki, and director Junpei Mizusaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) is about to slip into DC Comics' animated universe, which for our money, has generally surpassed the overall quality and depth of its rival comic book house in Marvel. The new film, tentatively-titled, Batman Ninja, will find Okazaki serving as character designer, and Kazuki Nakashima (Kill La Kill) handling the screenplay.

Those in attendance for tomorrow's Comic-Con launch can expect to see a short preview of the film, currently slated for a 2018 release, along with a panel, in which Okazaki, Mizusaki, Nakashima and English screenwriters, Leo Chu & Eric Garcia, are all to participate and discuss the ambitious new project. The film follows 2008's Batman: Gotham Knight in anime adaptations of Bruce Wayne's rich-white-kid-turns-lecherous-vigilante saga. A precise release date has yet to be revealed.
