The first time occurred in May, when vandals scratched the marker up with a tool. And then, over the weekend, someone had peeled off the back of the marker, which contained vital photos and information about the infamous 1955 case.
The sign was put up in 2011, right outside where Bryant's Grocery & Meat Market used to be. That was the scene where, in 1955, Carolyn Bryantlied and said that Till whistled at her. A group of white men, led by her husband Roy Bryant, kidnapped Till and lynched him.
Till would become a civil rights figure when Till's mother, Mamie Till, held an open casket viewing, showing how brutal the attacks were against her son.
