Quelle Chris – Jock Sin Six [Beat Tape]

cover art for Quelle Chris' Jock Sin Six beat tape

As promised, the new beat tape from 10th wonder Quelle Chris, streaming on bandcamp in all its beathead glory. If you could smoke these beats, your eyes would bleed purple. Seriously–good, sonic envelope-pushing sh*t and as with much innovative music, sometimes the tags speak for themselves: United States, electronic, minimal, hip-hop,  synthwave, rap. Listen below and throw 8 dollars at sun’s bandcamp to own it.

Quelle Chris – Jock Sin Six [Beat Tape]

It’s only been a month since our dude Quelle Chris blessed us with a new EP – and now we know at least part of the reason for why the multilaterally talented rapper/producer wasn’t flowing on his own beats: Quelle’s got a beat tape coming out. Jock Sin Six will be available as an exclusive CD at Low End Theory SF today and at BOOMBOX in LA tomorrow. The digital version’s coming on Monday.

Video Premiere: Quelle Chris “Live Alone Die Alone (prod. Dibia$e)”

After giving you a week to digest their new collabo EP, 2Dirt4TV, Quelle Chris and Dibia$e give us the first music video off the project. Check the OKP premiere of “Live Alone Die Alone.” Says Quelle of the visuals: “The video captures that old New York/LA skate Tape feel I’m fond of while still also utilizing my love for minimal, color/mood based videos.” What I can really appreciate about Quelle’s music is the same thing I can appreciate about his videos, the rawness. No glitz and glamour, just a fisheeye view of what you could easily believe to be a day in the life of Quelle.

Quelle Chris x Dibia$e – 2Dirt4TV [EP]

Quelle Chris 2dirt4tv

And now for a quick smoke break. Quelle Chris on the raps, Dibia$e on the beats – The D meets Cali with this fresh new EP, 2Dirt4TV. Says Quelle: “I linked up with Dibia$e in Sacramento. I literally slept in his studio and we had this done in 3 days. He made the beats on the spot. We also have a project along with Knxwledge and Crown Nation called Balance we are trying to have out by July.” To prepare you for this auditory experience you can check two raw in studio trailers for the EP, after the jump, before you dive into the music. It may be 2Dirt4TV but it sits real nice in them headphones. You can stream/purchase after the jump.

Audio: Quelle Chris “The Chains”

Speaking of swishercrats (I am just going to start every post with ‘speaking of’ from now on) the Green Party swishercratic nominee Quelle Chris just hit us with “The Chains,” which mushes Amiri Baraka and a brilliant flip of Fleetwood Mac into a mean piece of business (below). Then as a bonus prize, we get a mush-up of Floetry‘s “Say Yes” with Quelle’s Late Night Cruise/Jit mix (after the jump), which sounds something like a car parked outside a cabaret party at the Red Door (Burt Bacher, hold your head).

Video: Quelle Chris “Still Wasted” f/ Wasted Youth

Making their own, more lyrical, indie rap version of the Budweiser “Wassup? true.” ad spots, Quelle Chris and his homies in Wasted Youth link up via camera-phone (zero camera-men, as noted in the opening credits) for a Detroit-to-SF Bay collect call titled “Still Wasted.” Camaraderie aside, Quelle is still the best thing about this track, from the beat on down to his thinly-sliced cold cuts in the verse sandwich. This is off Shotgun & Sleek Rifle, available on iTunes now.

Video: Denmark x Quelle Chris “Green Party Swishercrat”

The Green Party Swishercrats of the Crown Nation crew–in this case Denmark & producer/rapper/auteur Quelle Chris–continue to make great music and invent new slang to describe it. “Green Party Swishercrat” brings Detroit vibes to Oakland with a feel that is equal parts chopped and screwed vocal hook and odd harmonics in a Dilla vein. Like “Symbolic (Basquiat)” the lo-fi black and white video works because the crew bring an artful swagger to their daily operations (smoking purple, freak-dancing in a stormtrooper helmet, etc) that translates easily to tape. Download the audio below and cop Quelle’s LP Shotgun & Sleek Rifle on iTunes for more.

Audio: Quelle Chris “Slaves” f/ Roc Marciano (prod. DJ House Shoes)

Quelle Chris excels again on this next joint from Shotgun and Sleek Rifle but its the Roc Marciano verse that really sets it off with “Whips & chains, Rick James frames / We rip the stage, ships hit waves / Used to flip ‘caine, shoot clips, aim / Elusive, if the shoe fits, get strings.” Then the crazy breakdown on the House Shoes beat shuts it down. The LP is out now, buy it here–no cooling off period required.

Video: Quelle Chris “Symbolic (Basquiat)” f/ Denmark

Quelle Chris raps more or less dolo on his own production and turns out to be just as nice on either side of the boards, a balanced MC with both lyrics and undeniable flow–watch past the 2-minute mark as his flow gets more and more chopped with dramatic pauses until he is riding the beat with sparse two-syllable bursts, almost like a dancehall deejay. The hook from fellow Crown-Nation crewmember Denmark Vesey is what may stay with you though: “The Bas-Basquiat you see is symbolic of the sound” (and the Basquiat you see is a crown). Get this as a single b/w “Shotgunon iTunes now or pre-order the full-length Shotgun & Sleek Rifle (dropping November 15th).

Audio: Quelle Chris “SHOTGUN” f/ Danny Brown & Roc Marciano

Detroit production new-dude Quelle Chris pulls a “Shotgun” on the rap game.  With Danny Brown playing the brilliant but jittery pillhead poet and Roc Marciano playing the muscle, this crime caper sounds like Detroit 9000 meets Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Maybe its because I grew up in the inner city and watched too many cartoons and midnight movies but I love this sh+t.  Stream or download below (and btw, this is the b-side of the excellent-ly named single “Symbolic (Basquiat)” which is coppable on iTunes.)
