Sean Price‘s Twilight review is a tough act to follow, but Homeboy Sandman gives it a try in the latest installment of NextMovie‘s ‘Rappers Review Movies’ segment. Boy Sand was tasked with reviewing the new Star Trek film, Into Darkness. I’ll have to admit, I’ve never been much of a Treky so I’ll have to take Sandman’s word for it on this review (because I’ll never watch it). Without seeing it, I will have to strongly agree with one point Homeboy Sandman makes, these theaters definitely jerk you [II] with the 3D. Film critic may be in Boy Sand’s future, but dope emcee is in his present, so go get his new album, Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent.

You know Homeboy Sandman is always good for that positivity. He spreads that message with his first video, “Peace & Love,” off his recently released album, Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent. Homeboy Sandman did just that (with Herc’s blessing) with his new 8-track release, Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent (entirely produced by El RTNC). Described as an “unapologetic homage to old school hip-hop,” this one, just like all Boy Sand albums, is a must listen. Check the album cut, “Dag, Philly Too,” and as is Boy Sand tradition a brand new track celebrating the album’s release, the Alex ‘Apex’ Gale produced “Kool Herc Fertile Crescent OUT NOW” – Go get that.

Because Homeboy Sandman and Jonwayne just fuckin’ around is much better than most music out there. During SXSW the two Stones Throw signess had a pop-up radio booth in the Converse Fader Fort. For 16 minutes they bless us with a live performance for Red Light Radio. The two run through some album cuts and loosies alternating lead and hype man duties (JW is really climbing that producer/rapper list for me). Check the full podcast, below. Jakarta Records has been coming with some strong releases as of late. They keep the ball rollin’ with some new ish from Raashan Ahmad today. On “No No No” Raashan gets production from 20Syl (from French group C2C) and a guest verse from lyricist supreme Homeboy Sandman (and that extra bass you’re hearing on the hook is provided by Chali2na). The 6th Sense produced track didn’t make the cut for First of a Living Breed, so Stones Throw decided to liberate it off the cutting room floor.
