Standing on a rooftop in Manhattan–singing your soul out to the sky above while holding a wire connected to an electric guitar amp–is just about the last place on earth you should be right now (see here for more details). But just about a week or so ago it seemed like a private paradise. That’s when we convinced Cody ChesnuTT to perform an intimate rooftop concert for Okayplayer TV, while he was in town briefly for a live appearance with Meshell Ndegeocello. The result is this rendition of ChesnuTT’s brand new jam “That’s Still Mama” for solo voice and guitar, lit by one hot lamp and the ambient illumination of NYC in the background, for an audience of roughly 8 lucky attendees. As an added OKP TV extra, ChesnuTT breaks down the specific incident that inspired the song at the end of the video. Watch below and then immediately go purchase Cody’s new LP Landing On A Hundred, on iTunes now.
