Snoop Dogg Channels Soul Singer Dorothy Moore on "Nipsey Blue"

Saturday, August 15th will mark what would've been Nipsey Hussle's 35th birthday, and as a tribute Snoop Dogg has released a new video. "Nipsey Blue" heavily samples the 1976 blues single "Misty Blue," by Dorothy Moore, with Snoop altering a few lines as appropriate. Stream the video below.

Snoop previously released the track "One Blood, One Cuzz" on his 2019 album I Wanna Thank Me in honor of Nipsey. Snoops dons all blue and visits one of many Nipsey murals in the video.

"After Nipsey passed away, a lot of gang members that hadn't talked in 30, 40 years came together," he told Billboard in 2019. "They really loved each other as friends, but through all the madness and ignorant bullshit they could never get any conversation going. It's like when the riots happened in 1992 and we later made The Chronic. That's what this track is like, the same feeling. I wanted to have a record that can unify people based off of a tragic event that can lead to some positivity and peace. We all need to be together now."

The original version of "Misty Blue" was written by country singer Bob Montgomery. Dorothy Moore's cover became the highest-charting version of the song, reaching number two on Billboard's R&B chart and three on the Hot 100. The cover was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1976 and appeared on the soundtrack for the 1996 movie Phenomenon.
