Rod Salka learned a lesson the hard way

On Thursday night, Francisco Vargas (25-1-1, 18 KOs) took apart Rod Salka (24-5, 4 KOs) in six rounds, after Salka's corner threw in the towel.

It was a pretty one-sided affair. But the actual fight isn't what makes this a story; it's what boxer Salka was wearing that makes this a story.

Salka was rocking blue and red trunks featuring a brick wall. Written on the waistline of his trunks was the phrase "America 1st." The trunks were clearly making an anti-immigration stance. What makes this even more pronounced is the fact that Vargas is Mexican.

Ring Magazine reporter Ryan Songalia ‏noticed the trunks, and put a clip of Salka getting beat up on his Twitter account:

Vargas sent Salka to the ground in the fifth after a savage right uppercut. In the sixth round, Salka was all but done as Vargas ripped into his body.

Before this fight, Salka was best known for getting knocked out in two rounds by Danny Garcia. Outside of the ring, he was known for making a run at politics. In 2016 he ran as the Republican candidate for District 38 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives; Democrat William Kortz II took him out in that election.
