The inaugural Broccoli City Festival took place in 2013. Labeled as "the first urban alternative Earth Day celebration," the festival was held at the Half Street Fairgrounds, in Washington DC. Big KRIT headlined the festival.
In that six-year span, the festival has grown into one of the biggest festivals on the east coast.

This weekend was the biggest Broccoli City Festival so far. Broccoli City now takes places in the parking lot of Landover’s FedEx Field. The headliner this year was Childish Gambino, who also headlined Coachella a couple of weeks ago. Of course, these are two different festivals: Broccoli Festival is in DC, so the crowd is much more diverse. Something Gambino is aware of. According to the Washington Post, at one point Gambino said “Every show I do is extremely personal...I didn’t come here for a check...this is Chocolate City.”
Gambino did a number of hits over the years, including "This is America," "Feels Like Summer," "Summertime Magic," "3005," before closing the night out with "Redbone."
Other notable acts included Lil Wayne — who did a mix of classics and Tha Carter V cuts — Teyana Taylor, Ella Mai, Lil Baby, JT from City Girls, and more.
