OKP Exclusive: Lil Tjay Speaks on New Album 'They Just Ain't You’
The Bronx artist also drops his new single “Used 2 Love.”
Lil Tjay is ending the year with a flurry. Today, the Bronx star speaks on his latest album, They Just Ain’t You, which is all set to drop on Feb. 20. He also unloads his new single, “Used 2 Love.” Speaking exclusively to Okayplayer, Tjay breaks down the meaning behind his new LP.
“This is a new chapter for me,” Lil Tjay explains. “A lot has changed in my life and l want to let my fans in on a more emotional level. This is also my first project under TrenchKid Records so it means a lot to me.”
They Just Ain’t You serves as the proper follow-up to his third studio album, 222, which dropped back in 2023. He spent most of 2024 on The Good Life Tour, which saw him performing to sold-out crowds across North America and Europe alongside special guests Kalan.FrFr and Dina Ayada.
With so much experience in such a short time, it’s understandable that They Just Ain’t You is a bit of a creative reset. Lil Tjay explained why the album’s title has a meaning that may be a little different than what you’d expect.
“The album is called They Just Ain’t You because people think they know, but they really have no idea what it is like to walk in your shoes,” he says.
“There is a lot of noise in the world we live in now, but the real ones know what it is. And I’ve spent a lot of time just reflecting on where I’m at now. Everybody doesn’t have to understand you,” Tjay adds. “Just keep pushing for greatness.”
“Used 2 Love” is available to stream now. The video itself will premiere at 11 a.m. EST.
