Video: Lianne La Havas - "Age"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.Lianne La Havas in a still from the video for "Age"

Lianne La Havas' new LP Is Your Love Big Enough? is--as the name might suggest--an attention grabber. An ear-opener. One hell of an introduction. And "Age" is arguably (as Candace L. does indeed argue in her IYLBE? review) the standout track. Now thanks to the crazy fools at Yours Tru.ly, "Age" has the video it deserves, pitting the lovely Lianne against an older gent who is more than twice her age but dead equal in swag; Reggae Pops, who is (apparently) a local legend in L.A. I can't testify on that but anybody can see he is dapper as hell (strictly g-code) and their pas de deaux at the Los Angeles Zoo is one of those rare instances when a song puts a vibe out to the universe and the universe responds with a video that is exactly right--watch below and read the quote on the making-of after the jump to see what I mean:

Reggae Pops is an LA legend. An ageless wonder who parties harder, dances smoother and woos faster than any man half his age. After one look at Lianne, it didn’t take much convincing to sign him up to be Lianne’s date for the day.

What you don’t see in the video is the serendipitous set of circumstances that led to its creation.

Reggae Pops showed up to the abandoned zoo expecting just to meet and maybe dance with Lianne, but the second she laid eyes on him, she screamed “REGGAE POPS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”

Turns out they’d met the previous weekend at the Do-Over and he’d stolen her heart.

One thing led to another, schedules were worked out and the “Age” video you see was born the very next morning.
