Travis Scott Is the First Rapper to Co-Design a Collection With Dior

On Thursday, the French fashion house announced the Spring/Summer 2022 collection would feature a co-designed capsule with Travis Scott and George Condo. The collection will debut at Paris Fashion Week Men's on June 25.

Travis Scott is continuing to do things on his own terms. First a sold-out McDonald's collaboration, second, was his successful alcohol spritzer, now he’s getting ready to unleash a collaborative collection with Dior.

On Thursday, the French fashion house announced the Spring/Summer 2022 collection would feature a codesigned capsule with Scott and George Condo. This marks the first time the house has ever collaborated with a rapper or musician. Since Scott is always donning new, unreleased pieces, he was spotted wearing a dark brown jacket emblazoned with a Dior logo on the back intertwined with Scott’s Cactus Jack logo yesterday in Paris.

In the past, Dior Men’s artistic director Kim Jones has collaborated with American artist Kaws, Yoon Ahn co-founder of Ambush and also world-renowned artist Daniel Arsham. The beloved Dior x Air Jordan 1 collaboration Jones released not too long ago is another example of how expansive his projects are with other creatives.

The capsule entitled “Cactus Jack Dior” is inspired by a trip Christian Dior took to America in 1947 to celebrate his debut collection. One of his destinations was Texas which left a lasting impact on him, ultimately Jones decided to tap in with Scott who is creating his own modern legacy.

The artist reimagined the Dior logotype via a series of hand-drawn graphics utilized as prints and embroidery. Additionally, these are the following motifs that will be shown in the pieces: “topography of Houston, the Cactus Jack character, and imagery drawn from Dior’s archives,” reads a press release.

Since the Houston artist is known for dropping merch that sells out almost instantly, the range will also feature T-shirts reminiscent of this. Beyond that, well-tailored trousers and leather jackets will be a part of the expansive collection. George Condo also created hand-drawn designs for tees that will be debuted in the collection. One other tiny detail worth mentioning: for the first time Dior’s jewelry artistic director Victoire de Castellane created a cactus necklace with gems paying homage to Cactus Jack Records.

The Dior collection designed alongside Scott in Paris will be live streamed on June 25 at 2:30 p.m. CET / 8:30 a.m. EST on dior.com. Take a look at a preview below.
