Watch Sly Stone Surprise The Family Stone And Slip Onstage To Perform "If You Want Me To Stay"
Ring the alarms, y'all. There's been a Sly Stone sighting! The mythical pioneer of psychedelic soul and funk surprised some of his old bandmates, currently touring as The Family Stone, by joining them onstage at a performance at The Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ this past Sunday. Stone apparently slid behind the keys for an all-star rendition of their classic "If You Want Me To Stay," where he would be seen and heard diddling on the ivory and letting his scratchy rasp roll over the crowd, assuring them the occasion was no dream at all. It was his first appearance since landing a massive settlement of millions in a 25-year-long dispute over royalties that finally concluded at the top of 2015, which could very well mean that now that he's settled up, we might just be seeing and hearing some new material. But even if that isn't the case, a showing from the gawd is like finding the leprechaun at the end of the rainbow shuffling through his pot of gold coinage. And we couldn't be happier to know that he's still got the touch (okay, maybe not vocally.) A rather muffled fan-shot video has surfaced capturing the historic moment in all of it funky glory. Here's hoping there's more to come. But damn, welcome back Sly Stone!
