Quest for Cuba Banner Revised
Earlier this year,Questlove made a historic trip to Cuba and Okayplayer was fortunate enough to document the journey, a proverbial fly on the walls of old (and new) Havana as Questo embarked on a whirlwind of record-shopping, record-dropping and spontaneous cultural exchange of the funkiest kind. From the crowded warm darkness of Fabrica de Arte Cubano to legendary EGREM studios (which coincidentally, just inked a historic new deal with Sony since our little junket), to unplanned beatbox/freestyle sessions on the sun-drenched streets of the Caribbean capital, Quest For Cuba manages to feed our eyes and ears and maybe even other body parts, all within a mini-doc format--it was a life-changing experience for those involved, and undeniably a new high benchmark for Okayplayer Films. Suffice to say we're pretty damn proud.
Which is why we are psyched to share this filmic experience in a bigger way. The film is already available for free online viewing, but things are taking a quantum leap onto the big screen later this month when Quest for Cuba screens as part of the New York City Urbanworld film festival on Saturday, September 26th. Those who attend will be the first ever to see it in a massive, theater-size format--a first for Okayplayer films and a tradition we fully intend to continue. Directors Jauretsi and OKP president Dan Petruzzi will host a 20 minute Q&A session following the film, and audience members will also be treated to another feature, We Like it Like That, over the course of the evening. Questlove, Cuban rhythms and film studies--it's the perfect composition. Find screening info (and a teaser clip of the film) below and get the entire Urbanworld film festival schedule here.
