Queen Latifah Honored At Princess Grace Awards Gala In NYC

Queen Latifah has won the Princess Rainer III Award, the top honor, at the Princess Grace Awards Gala in New York City this past Monday night. The prestigious award, which remembers the legacy of Princess Grace Kelly and her devotion to excellence in the arts, is given by the Princess Grace Foundation-USA. In her speech Latifah thanked her mother, an art teacher, saying, “I watched her develop their self-esteem, experience and their zest for life. Just the idea, that if they dream big they can go for it, was something they learned in her art class.” The award comes with a grant in the amount of $25,000, which will be given to an organization of Latifah's choosing. The event was hosted by Naomi Campbell and was attended by the loftily titled His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of MonacoLeslie Odom Jr. of the Broadway smash hit play Hamilton and choreographer Camille A. Brown received recognition with the Grace Statue Award. Julie Andrews, Cicely TysonDick Van Dyke, PaulettaDenzel Washington, Glenn Close, and George Lucas are a few of the individuals awarded by the organization in the past.
