Today our vat-grown siblings over at Okayfuture premiered an ill re-imagining of "Emmanuel" by Basecamp, a 3-human collective who could perhaps best be described as The Future Sound of Nashville. The moody remix comes from New York City’s Blackedout, arriving at--if such a thing were possible--an even spacier and more haunting sound. OKF has the story:

Early last month, the Nashville production trio known as Basecamp set the internet ablaze with their self-titled debut EP featuring a new sound of downtempo, electronic-tinged R&B and house, that we dared to put alongside the likes of SBTRKT & Sampha, Jamie Woon and Bon Iver.

It should be no surprise then that the standout track “Emmanuel,” garnering significant attention with its soulful, lovelorn vocals and seductive textures, will be making an encore appearance in a forthcoming remix project that will include treatments from an eclectic stable of artists including Jon Hertz, STWO, Them Jeans, Hayden James, Blacksmif, Artful Dodger and Blackedout, whose remix Okayfuture is excited to premiere today.

Blackedout tones down the original without sacrificing the intensity as the track cinematically builds with house-infused, chillwave soundscapes – a perfect accompaniment to the poetically yearning R&B vocals.  Blackedout’s remix is an intriguingly poignant listen from start to finish.
