Petite Noir Album Cover
One of the most exciting producers amongst South Africa's thriving production scene, Yannick Illunga, aka Petite Noir is preparing the release of a new LP, an 11 track offering entitled La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful. The new effort will follow Petite Noir's excellent The King of Anxiety EP, which dropped only last year and featured the talents of Yasiin Bey.
Stoking an already red-hot fire of anticipation, Illunga has released a brand new video ahead of the LP--a bright highway-riding clip for "Down." The clip "blends unrehearsed imagery and joyful sounds to paint a contemporary portrait of Petite Noir’s Congolese background and his hopes for the country’s future,” according to Domino Records (Petite Noir's label). Over at Okayafrica, our cohorts rightly noted that it features "Yannick and his girlfriend Rochelle Nembhard around the streets of Lubumbashi as they ride motorcycles, hang with street basketballers and meet people across the city." It's a gorgeous trip, both sonically and visually, and has us counting down the days to September 11th, when the full record will be released.
