Okayafrica Video: Ibeyi's Voices Soar In A Central Park Performance For Okay Acoustic

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

French-Cuban twin sisters Ibeyi hold entire symphonies within themselves. Blending their lush vocal talents into unforgettable harmonies, Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz time and time again find ways to astonish and win over new audiences with their work, making music that bridges gaps between the past and present, across Africa, Cuba and elsewhere to create songs unlike anything else heard today. To hear Ibeyi is to drift into a kind of dream.

Okayplayer has been fortunate enough to play host to the sisters Ibeyi on multiple occasions this year, including our 2015 SXSW blow-out showcase and, most recently, on stage in Central Park as part of the SummerStage concert series. And while that night brought the Diazes on stage to perform a full live set, the two took extra time out of their day to perform a stripped-down rendition of "Ibeyi (Outro)" off of their debut LP. It's the latest installment in Okayplayer & Okayafrica's continuing Okay Acoustic series, which gives artists a platform to shine without ever plugging in. With only each other's voice and a few sparse handclaps, Ibeyi exemplifies natural artistry in the new clip. Watch it below, and peruse a photo gallery from that day in New York City over at Okayafrica. Ibeyi's self-titled LP is currently out on XL Recordings and on sale via iTunes.
