Mixtape Mondays: Teleseen, De La Soul, Notorious Exchange + More
This week's edition of Mixtape Mondays is full of enough gems and jewels that you'll think it's Valentine's Day all over again--if your Valentine's Day was an international getaway that included stop overs in Angola, Brazil and all bouts. Our bloggers-in-arms over at Okayafrica kick things off with the premiere of a new mix from Teleseen--the very first artist to be released on Feel Up records, the new brand imprint from Jillionaire 0f Major Lazer fame (not to mention LargeUp fame) The stakes is high that you'll enjoy Gibril Kuyateh's tribute to De La Soul's 25th Anniversary. DJ Junior of Record Breakin' shares some jazzy vinyl cuts while Nzungunzungu shows us a world where r&b meets Angolan beats. Traveler takes us the rest away around the world around the world and the homie DJ Synapse makes sure we have the necessary assortment of stunner shades for such a holiday with his "Stunner of The Month." DJ Rahdu not only shares the latest of his Diamond Soul XXXperience broadcasts but also puts us up on DJ Needles' brilliant concept mix The Notorious Exchange (yes, that's Foreign Exchange jams moshed up with B.I.G. in the spirit of Needles' Tribe Called Kast mix). After Chairman Mao delights us with a collection of classic reggae covers, DJ LeFtO takes it all home with not one but two installments of his show, blending deep house, hip hop, and everything in between. Join us on this global adventure by clicking through.
Okayplayer is extremely proud to team with Okayafrica in premiering the Double Meaning mix from sonic internet turrorist-ninja Teleseen. As mentioned, Teleseen is the first artist coming out on Feel Up Records, the new Brooklyn-based imprint from Jillionaire of Major Lazer. Here's how they described the new venture and the inaugural mix:
Feel Up is a Brooklyn-based record label founded by Major Lazer's own Jillionaire. With over 15 years of experience, Jillionaire has created a unique sound that is known and loved by the masses, mashing house and electro with the warm caribbean rhythms of soca and dancehall. In 2014, this uplifting and eclectic approach to music will finally be collected under one roof with the launch of Feel Up Records, aiming to present a variety of sounds from around the world, to the world.Teleseen takes on a 20 track journey through house, zouk, tarraxinha, and techno from Angola and South Africa, with occasional side trips to Portugal and Brazil.
