The incredibly infectious New York soul outfit Lion Babe took a trip across the pond recently to perform live at BBC Radio 1's studios. And they brought a funky full band with them.
Lead vocalist Jillian Hervey and producer/sampler wizard Lucas Goodman drew upon their full powers to perform both "Wonder Woman," the Pharrell-produced (and highly Badu-tinged) new single that hit the airwaves earlier this spring. Strutting hard on a funky bassline and deft, gospel chops drums, the single sounds more vital and free-flowing than ever before--if this is Lion Babe's typical live show then you'll be finding us up front at every show for the rest of time.
"Wonder Woman" has been a huge success for the duo, who released a video for the cut soon after its initial drop, and have benefitted from re-chops from both DJ Premier and Suff Daddy. But that wasn't enough funk, apparently, for their BBC sojourn, and the band hung around to perform a commendable cover of Amy Winehouse's classic R&B joint "Love is a Losing Game." Watch both performances below and prepare yourself for much more can't-get-it-out-of-your-head funk from these two cats.
