Bid On Rare Vinyl From Kaytranada, Akua Naru & More In Jakarta Records's Charity Auction For Mediterranean Immigrants

This one holds a special place in our hearts. In response to the tragic news that over 400 people died in the Mediterranean sea in the midst of an attempt to emigrate to Europe from Libya, German label Jakarta Records has set up a charity vinyl auction in the hope of offering financial support to others who, in hopes of a better life, risk everything. The auction features unplayed, original vinyl from Kaytranada and Akua Naru, along with their recent, highly-praised (and already extremely rare) Winter In Jakarta compilation. Jakarta announced the auction on their Facebook page, writing:

charity auction: as most of you will have heard people keep dying trying to make it to the european union via the mediterranen. while the victims of last weeks tragedy had to wait 6 hours after they requested help, the european union still does little to nothing to save the lives of the ones drowning the ocean (intentionally?).

Sea-Watch is a private organization that has bought an old fish trawler and turned it into a watch and rescue ship which is about to start searching the mediterranen for people in need. while it should not be the responsibility of private organizations but of the european governments to manage the crisis we salute the effort and the idea so we feel like supporting it. this is an auction for a selection of some of the rarest and most demand vinyl we ever released. all unplayed and numbered originals:

akua naru - the journey aflame lp

Kaytranada - kaytra todo ep

kaytranada - remix ep

v/a "winter in jakarta"

you can win the auction by placing your bid in the comment section. the auction will end friday, 6pm european time. the highest bid will win and make a donation to sea-watch, send us the proof and we will send out the records.

feel free to support by spreading the word too...

From the looks of things, Akua Naru's copy of The Journey Aflame has been signed by the artist, and any beathead with even a little bit of short-term memory will recall the excellence that is Kaytranada's Kaytra Todo (which we've embedded below). Now is your best shot to own these extremely rare and valuable records, while also helping Sea-Watch potentially save lives in the process. "We feel if you’re running a label, if you’re an artist or if you’re an musician and thru that you gain a certain reach it doesn’t take too much to use this reach for making a difference once in a while," Jakarta head Jannis Stürtz told Okayplayer. "we know things like this auction are only baby steps but in the end some baby steps will amount to something."

The auction is open until Friday 6 p.m. European time (1 p.m. EST), and the current high bid stands at $350. Let's raise it up.
