Hanni El Khatib Delivers A Hypnotic Cover Of D'Angelo's "Devil's Pie"

LA's gritty guitar specialist Hanni El Khatib first creeped onto our radar on choice collaborations with the likes of GZA and Freddie Gibbs, but a freshly released cover of D'Angelo's Voodoo anthem "Devil's Pie" might just make your boy a household name. I must warn you though, this is far from the boom-bap-laced brooder of a cut you may recall from that turn-of-the-century masterpiece. The pocket loosens and becomes broader (a bit sloppier even) and D's mesmerizing falsetto is supplanted by layers of Khatib's own reverb-heavy vox. But that's not to say that there are no traces of soul music's great redeemer, as he's deeply embedded in each and every moment. The cover will be available in extremely limited quantities on 7-inch wax for Record Store Day, which is available to purchase via Innovative Leisure today. As for the rest of you, stream Hanni El Khatib's hypnotizing cover of D'Angelo's "Devil's Pie" below or catch him on tour to hear it live and direct.
