Video: Flying Lotus "Fly First" Mini-Doc
Flying Lotus live at Pitchfork Festival
For this Fly First mini-doc on Flying Lotus,PFTV followed the audio auteur around on his summer touring grind, leading up to a hard-in-the-paint live set at their own festival in Chicago. In spite of the title, the cloud atlas establishing shot and FlyLo's dreams of being able to "superman out this sh*t"--all of which set the tone for the video--what follows is an oddly humanizing portrait of the often mysterious artist. FlyLo scrounges for decent weed, has awkward shuttle rides and network-y conversations with Bassnectar and the other artists working the tour circuit and puts a brave face on for endless interviews about his new LP Until The Quiet Comes (dropping October 2nd, pre-order on iTunes). As a document, the vid is well-made enough to provide future earthlings (or aliens) a fly-eye view of what its like to be an electronic artist in 2012 but just like the trailers, airports and cab rides, its all ultimately prelude to what comes through the speakers. FlyLo himself sums up the whole experience best when he says: "I'm looking forward to playing some tunes really loud that I haven't heard really loud."
