Filming For Marvel's 'The Punisher' Series Has Started
As we continue to get through the first season of Luke Cage Marvel and Netflix are already plotting their takeover for future series such as Iron Fist and The Defenders.
Now another series has been added to the list — The Punisher.
Shooting for the series has already started, with a bearded Jon Bernthal being shown in pictures captured from the set. Aside from the photos not much else is known about the forthcoming series.
When will it be released; where it will begin (before the second season of Daredevil, where Bernthal's antihero made his well received debut, or after the events of that season); who'll feature in the series — no answers for any of the bigger questions on our minds.
Still, considering that the show is currently being shot, that could very well mean a Punisher series could drop in between Iron Fist and The Defenders.
A solo Punisher series wasn't even in the plans until after the second season of Daredevil dropped. The character was considered one of the best parts of the 13 episode season, with critics and fans alike speaking to Bernthal's portrayal of the troubled antihero also known as Frank Castle. This was a refreshing take on the vigilante, considering the less than memorable portrayals of him from Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson (we'll let Dolph Lundgren's portrayal slide, since he was the first to play him).
"For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn't be more excited to dive into his world," Executive Producer and Showrunner Steve Lightfoot said in an interview. "After watching Jon's performance in Marvel's Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own."
