Fashion Friday: Legendary Reggae Label Wackie's Apparel [Hoodie & T-Shirt] From LargeUp

fashion friday: hoodie from legendary reggae label Wackie's

Our fashion friday look this week is among those rare wears that qualify both as "poppin style" and "strictly roots" (nah true, dreadie?). Our reggae-minded brethren at LargeUp come with a fall-ready black hoodie and ever-ready black tee, both bearing the official Lion & Flag seal of legendary NYC reggae label Wackie's--named, of course after its founder, groundbreaking dub and dancehall producer Lloyd "Bullwackie" Barnes. LargeUp has the full story on the clothes and the man (not to mention the dub). Read below and hit the link to cop via the LargeUp page on the Okayplayer store:

When it comes to dub and reggae, Wackie’s holds a special place on our turntables. The first reggae specialist label of note in the U.S., the Bronx-based imprint founded by Jamaican transplant Lloyd “Bullwackies” Barnes is behind some of our favorite records, like The Love Joys “All I Can Say” and Junior Delahaye’s “Love.” While other reggae labels have signature sounds, there’s no mistaking Wackie’s era-capturing blend of lo-fi textures, eerie harmonies and behind-the-beat, headnod swag.

Earlier this year we even went and compiled a Wackies Toppa Top 10 to put some shine on our favorite recordings from the Wackie’s catalog. So when Ira Heaps of the famed NYC record store Jammyland brought us about a new line of officially-licensed apparel from Wackie’s himself, we signed up immediately. First up are h0odies and tees with the classic Wackie’s Lion of Judah logo. Both are available in Black only, in S, M, L, XL and XXL sizes.
