Madonna gave a controversial speech about President Donald Trump at the Women's March On Washington, and Trump has fired back at the pop star.

"Honestly, she’s disgusting. I think she hurt herself very badly. I think she hurt that whole... cause," he told Fox News' Sean Hannity in an interview, according to TIME. "I thought her, and a couple of others. But I thought she was in particular... I thought what she said was disgraceful to our country."

Many found Madonna's speech as one of the highlights of the Women's March On Washington, as a speech to empower and energize those discouraged after the results of the election.

"It took this horrific moment of darkness to wake us the fuck up. It seems as though we all slipped into a false sense of comfort, that justice would prevail and that good would prevail in the end," she said. Well, good did not win this election. But good will win in the end. So what today means is that we are far from the end. Today marks the beginning; the beginning of our story. The revolution starts here."

But she also had a controversial statement.

"Yes, I'm angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House. But I know that won't change anything. We cannot fall into despair."

Madonna clarified later that the statement was a metaphor, not an actual consideration of violence. But Newt Gingrich, and now, President Trump, have chastised her comments. Many have seen criticism by Trump as a badge of honor - Madonna is likely to do the same.
