Danny Brown Divulges Early Influences, Musical Beginnings + More In RBMA Lecture Live From Glasgow

Danny Brown ft. Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt, Ab-Soul: "Really Doe"

Danny Brown is about as eccentric of an entertainer as you get in this day and age. Outside of, say, Action Bronson, Brown has emerged as one of the hip-hop's next generation MC-internet personality hyphenate. Last week, the mad-rapping Motor City native descended upon a Glasgow stage for his moment in the Red Bull Music Academy limelight, delving into his beginnings, inspirations and life as one of the most talented mic-slayers of his generation in an 80-minute lecture that spans his entire career. The conversation begins where most should, in his home, where his father's penchant for early house and Ghettotech and his mother's Motown obsession provided a broad musical backdrop for him to embrace and learn from, picking up his first rhyme-saying sentiments from, you guessed it, Dr. Seuss. Early influences ranged from Wu-Tang (his first CD ever) to The White Stripes and virtually everything in between. Jovial and totally elated, Brown reveals that his first performative moments came in the bedroom with a bevy of Street Fighter action figures, assigning each to be a member of the Shaolin collective. All of these things and so much more can be found in the this expansive and wholly insightful interview. Watch Danny Brown get really real in a RBMA lecture below.
