OKP Premiere: Chelsea Reject Traverses Brooklyn In Her New "Based" Video
Duck Down-signee Chelsea Reject is back with a brand new video for "Based," her Romby-produced new single. We're taken on a trip through the MC's native borough of Brooklyn in the pre-dusk hours, with shots of gorgeous brownstone blocks, rooftops, bridges and dingy subway stations fading in and out of one another like a half-lit waking dream.
At just 22 years of age, Chelsea Reject has already made major waves, rocking Atlanta's AC3 festival with aplomb and garnering massive praise for her CMPLX mixtape, which dropped earlier this year. That solid 16-track offering includes the talents of Pro Era's Nyck Caution, Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, and Dyemond Lewis, as well as T’Nah Apex, Jean Deaux, and Atownomas. And while Ms. Reject was last seen cast in crisp black-and-white in her video for "Go," today's new visuals are much more staccato, vibrant and (frankly) disorienting. Over crackling chords Chelsea expounds her point of view, pulling upon her past experience as a poet to lay out inventive rhyme schemes.
Chelsea has reportedly been in the studio again lately, working with a variety of producers on what will ultimately become a new EP, and recently rocked a series of sold-out shows in Japan. If you're reading this and happen to be in Brooklyn, you can tweet at her and she'll ride over to you on her bicycle to deliver t-shirts at a steal of a price (and customer service that can't be beat!)
