The Rhymesayers camp has really knuckeld up for this one.
Atmosphere shared a new single late Tuesday night–the dynamic, funk-spitting “This Lonely Rose,” which features vocal assistance from both Aesop Rock and Blueprint. Saturated with confidence thanks to a wah-wah’d funk loop and curt drums, the track features one of the funnest performances that Slug has offered in quite some time; on “This Lonely Rose,” the Minneapolis patron saint sets aside his doubts and is quick to stand up and stunt. With Blueprint’s slinking bars and Aesop’s vocal slap-chop thrown in for good measure, all is right inside of these four minutes.
Both Minneapolis local legend Plain Ole Bill and G Koop were behind the instrumental on “This Lonely Rose,” and for that we owe them a hearty thanks. This thing goes, in a very wonderful way. Those in Minneapolis should also circle their calendars for December 4th, when Rhymesayers Entertainment will hold a massive 20th Anniversary blow-out concert featuring just about anyone and everyone who has, at some point, worked with the Midwestern label.
