The minute-long trailer finds Williams portraying James, an "aspiring playwright" that is trying to excel in her career, while also dealing with the aftermath of a failed relationship (with her boyfriend portrayed by Atlanta star Keith Stanfield). The trailer starts with James on Tinder date that does not seem to be going well as she bluntly admits to her date "I'm not loving the vibe of this interaction so far."
From there different scenes are shown as James does a lot of dancing on top of a roof, in a club, on a staircase (as a confused neighbor watches on), and alongside her best friend (portrayed by Master Of None's Noel Wells).
The Incredible Jessica Jamespremiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Jim Strouse, the director of the movie, said he made the lead role of Jessica James with Williams in mind after she appeared in his other film People Places Things.
"While I was in the edit room for People Places Things, I kept telling people that I can't wait till she stars in her own movie," Strouse said. "I just decided to get a jump on it and wrote one for her. I couldn't be more thrilled to be making it with Jessica and the rest of this incredible cast which came together around her."
