And the campaign commences with today's premiere of the warm and warped, "sore throat," a ballad that blends Bon Iver's hushed backwoods r&b with Frank Ocean's masterful melody-crafting.
In a clip for the single, co-directed by the singer and Dan Streit, villere brings the bustle of heavy foot traffic to a crawl in his adopted Los Angeles outpost. Slipping into quiet crevices, or even fashioning his own out of any number of spare rooftops, villere excavates intimacy in a notoriously impersonal town. In a statement delivered via email, villere notes his attempt to "make a fake city within a city," likening the process to "a kid turning his backyard into another planet."
