Back in February, ThunderCats Roar premiered on Cartoon Network. The show is a more light-hearted version of the famous 1980s series. Grammy-winning artist Thundercat is a noted fan of the franchise, and on Friday he premiered "Grune's Tune," a track he made specially for the new show. Thundercat voices the villain.
Thundercat recently joined the rest of the ThunderCats Roar for a virtual panel for Warner Bros' Comic-Con@Home 2020. Stream the full conversation below.
During the panel, he spoke on his childhood fascination with the series, and revealed that he got his stage name from Erykah Badu. His fanhood was so strong, he revealed his mother "wouldn't buy me the toys because she genuinely thought I would worship them."
"You know when you're a kid you have a lot of creative energy and all this stuff," he said. "I was always really into illustration and music. Nobody ever believes when I tell them I've been playing bass since I was five years old."
"Specifically with the Thundercats, it was already in syndication by the time I was five," he continued. "I remember my mom used to have to pull me back from the TV. I didn't understand the concept but it was one of those things where you know, everything about being from space. I had an affinity for cats, I was a cat person."
The release is his first since his long-anticipated fourth studio album It Is What It Is.
